What: The Demo Sleeping Cabin built by Grace United Church
Where: Corner of George and McDonnel
When: for the month of June.
Why: Fundraising. An opportunity to see the cabin, ask questions (“Are you the same as the
Wolfe St. one”…”is the city working with you…what’s the difference between what you’re doing
and the city?”, etc., and “How can I help?”); also to pick up a brochure, use the QR code to go
straight to the donor key on the PATH website, or sign up for a Working Group: site
preparation; food logistics planning; communications and fundraising.
Last fall PATH had a Roving Cabin Tour which reached many people in Peterborough and
made the PATH name recognizable to people who were thinking and caring about the
homelessness crisis in Peterborough.
Since then PATH has accomplished a lot as a small volunteer-based not-for-profit. In
particular, they have secured a site for a three-year pilot project, on the property of the former
Humane Society at 285 Lansdowne St. E., now owned and leased to PATH by Habitat for
Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region.
PATH is reaching out again to the broader community to let them know they will be
implementing the project this fall/winter, starting with 15 sleeping cabins. Funds are urgently
needed to pay for rent, wraparound services provided by Elizabeth Fry and other agencies
but paid for by PATH, plus renovations and infrastructure preparation at the site, among other
necessary expenses.
The Cabin is staffed by volunteers from 9 to 5 each day in June. The donation link is
